Over 10,000 people are on the San Buenaventura housing authority list in need of a home. People need of help and the housing authority has just received almost 19 million dollars in funding.

The money comes from the California Strategic Growth Council for the Westside Housing and Active Transportation grant. Awarded by the California’s Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities Program that funds projects that promote a healthy community.

Westview Village was constructed back in 1952 and the money will be used to tear it down and redevelop the area. There will be different phases of development. Phase two will be an additional 50 units of senior housing and a large park. Phase three will be 105 units that will be replacing the current units.

The money will also be purchasing 40 Calvan vehicles to help with transportation needs.

No word yet on when the construction process will be completed. Visit the Housing Authorities facebook page for more information here https://www.facebook.com/HACITYVENTURA
