Ventura County SoCalGas customers should be aware of a scam that was first discovered in the city of Tustin. Reports of a man dressed as a SoCalGas salesperson offering to install an earthquake shutoff valve that will be refunded later.

Residents of Ventura County should also be aware of this type of scam and it’s possible the suspect could be travelling around Southern California.

These types of valves do exist and can be installed but SoCalGas doesn’t offer a refund. SoCalGas urges customers to never shutoff the gas themselves and offer other important information in an alert posted yesterday here.

SoCalGas stated that to prepare for an earthquake you should take precautions such as keeping an adjustable wrench handy, secure your water heater and check safety devices regularly.
