The statue of Father Junipero Serra that has been one of the most recognized landmarks of Downtown Ventura will be relocated to storage. The Mission San Buenaventura that he founded on Easter Sunday, 1792 will remain until the Mission and Easter Sunday are removed.

In a unanimous vote 6-0 ( not including the Mayor ) the statue will be put in storage. The goal will be to move the statue to Mission San Buenaventura, and off public property.

"We’d like to thank everyone in the community who got involved and came together during this public process. We are glad this historic decision involved so many voices," said Deputy Mayor Sofia Rubalcava.
