According to the Sacramento Bee... "The rats were winning."

There was a large infestation earlier on in the summer around downtown Sacramento. Officials closed a local playground in fear of children catching rodent-borne diseases.

Things got so bad the local authorities in Sacramento had to try a controversial new rat poison. The problem is the California Legislature is set to ban it’s use. The poison was in use temporarily until state regulators and environmental groups condemned the poison.

“Effective immediately, I’m putting a moratorium on the use of rodenticides around the 1001 I Street Building, “ Serena McIlwain in an email to staffers. “We will continue to monitor the situation daily and will work aggressively to find effective, less toxic alternatives.”

It's uknown at this time if the playground has been closed or if a new solution to this environmental problem has been solved.
